Tenure-track Position in TESOL


The Department of English at San Francisco State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track position to begin Fall 2012.  Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Ph. D. or Ed. D. in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, Linguistics, or Education with a specialization in TESOL (completion of doctorate by August 2012)

·         Ability to teach a range of graduate-level TESOL teacher preparation courses

·         Ability to teach undergraduate courses in second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, or applied linguistics 

·         Publications and professional presentations in areas of expertise

·         Ability and willingness to supervise graduate student research projects and theses

 

Desirable Qualifications:

·         Experience and expertise in teaching M.A. and/or upper division TESOL courses

·         Expertise in one or more of the following areas: second language acquisition; second language reading/writing/literacy development; pedagogical grammar; educational technology; corpus linguistics; teaching English internationally; research methods 

·         Ability and willingness to teach courses in SFSU's Composition for Multilingual Students 

 

General Responsibilities:

·         Teaching in the M.A. TESOL and CMS programs

·         Teaching undergraduate courses in second language acquisition, sociolinguistics, or applied linguistics

·         Research/scholarship in areas of expertise

·         Contributions to program development; campus, community, and professional service

The Department:

The Department of English offers four undergraduate degrees, four M.A. degrees, and three post-secondary teaching certificate programs (see http://www.sfsu.edu/~english/ <http://www.sfsu.edu/~english/> ). Established in 1964, SFSU's M.A. TESOL  Program (http://www.sfsu.edu/~matesol/ <http://www.sfsu.edu/~matesol/> ) is one of the oldest and most highly respected teacher training programs in the country.
