FIFTH SYMPOSIUM ON LANGUAGE PLANNING
Complexity and language planning: Rights of Minority Communities
Venue: Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla
Instituto de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades "Alfonso Vélez Pliego"
del 20 al 22 de noviembre de 2013
Puebla de los Angeles, México
Call for Papers Extended until August 30, 2013
The objective of this symposium is to join researchers in Language Policy and Cultural Rights together with specialists on International Law, Language and Complex Systems as well as representatives of indigenous organizations in order to both analyze and evaluate the effects of contemporary changes on sustainability and survival of communities and the emergence of their rights.
In this event, we expect to develop the following discussion lines:

  1.  Diversity, social cohesion and new minorities from a complex system perspective;
  2.  Effects of the global crisis on migratory flows as well as on the continuity of their ethnolinguistic heritage;
  3.  Policy implementation and actors that make planning possible;
  4.  Appropriateness and quality of plurilingual and intercultural education;
  5.  Methodologies to study sociolinguistic change and implementation strategies;
  6.  Diverse functions of writing in plurilingual and pluricultural situations;
  7.  Reconfiguration of identities in the contemporary glocal scenario;
  8. Regulations and legal instruments -both national and international- to recognize and protect minorities.
