The Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track open rank position of Program Coordinator in Mandarin Chinese language beginning Fall 2014. Candidates should have an advanced degree in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, second language acquisition, applied Chinese linguistics, or a related field. PhDs and ABDs are encouraged to apply. Candidates must demonstrate native-like proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English. Prior experience working with the methodology of second language acquisition is required. The candidate should also have at least three years of teaching and administrative experience, preferably from a U.S. university-based study abroad program, and be familiar with performance-based teaching materials and techniques. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on experience.



Highlights of the responsibilities:

• Oversight of and direct participation in the development of a coherent and theoretically sound language acquisition program for beginner to superior level students in a study abroad environment.

• Ongoing development and administration of a placement test during orientation and development of assessment tools, syllabus and rubrics for the curriculum of the program.

• Coordination and communication with the Chinese language program at Duke University to ensure the curricular articulation between the two programs.

• Recruitment and orientation of new language instructors to the unique needs of DKU students, the design of DKU programs and performance expectations regarding their employment.

• Management and delivery of non-credit Chinese language and culture classes.

• Teaching in the Chinese program each semester.

• Full and complete reporting of all issues related to the quality and implementation of the language program.
