Subject: FW: PRAXIS ESOL NAC - recruiting efforts
Hi Willisa,

This fall, ETS will be updating the PRAXIS ESOL test specifications. To assist in making these changes, we will be convening a National Advisory Committee (NAC) from Nov. 13 - 16 in Princeton, NJ. Currently, we are recruiting applicants who are interested in serving on the NAC.

A NAC is typically composed of about 12-15 experts in the field selected so that each committee is diverse with respect to gender, race and ethnicity, geography, professions (K-12 teachers, professors, linguists, etc.), and state and grade level representation. Committee members will work with ETS staff over the course of two separate weekends to analyze, revise, and finalize new test specifications for the PRAXIS ESOL test. We may also discuss new computer-enhanced innovative items that we can incorporate into the test in order to assess test candidates more authentically and appropriately.

The NAC meets in Princeton over the course of two weekends that are usually about six months apart. During the first NAC meeting we will draft a set of "knowledge and skill statements" that will serve as the building blocks for new test specifications. We will send these knowledge and skill statements out in the form of a job survey to ESL teachers across the country to solicit feedback. At the second meeting, we will look at the results of the survey and finalize the new test specifications. Committee members receive an honorarium for each meeting they attend, and all travel and lodging expenses are paid by ETS. Certificates will be provided to NAC members indicating the meeting provided 20 hours of Professional Development. In addition, ETS will reimburse an attending committee member's school district when a substitute teacher is employed for the time the committee member is attending an ETS-sponsored NAC meeting. Those interested in applying can do so by following the instructions here: http://surveys1013.websurveyor.net/wsb.dll/bfried/NACRegistration.htm

Thanks,
Maria
