?Of course, folks will disagree on the answer.  I have found that adhering to one genre makes more sense.  Grad students always want to take on too much, and I always caution them to do depth without breadth.  The breadth can be part of a lifetime's work.

Hi all ,
I have a PHD student who would like to work on text messaging discourse as a gender marker , he proposed to work on SMS and emails and I see that focusing on SMS texts ONLY  is better to have more reliable and plausible findings , what do you think?
