The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership (TLPL) in
the College of Education at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks
a tenured associate or full professor colleague with a dual focus on
teacher education research and practice. Located in the Washington,
DC-Baltimore, MD corridor, the University of Maryland, College Park is the
flagship research university and land grant institution in the region. The
Department is deeply committed to equity and excellence, embraces a broad
range of theoretical and methodological orientations, values collaborative
research and encourages faculty to work across divisions and
specializations. Faculty members in the Department frequently engage in
scholarship at the state, national, and international levels and in
institutional research centers such as the Center for Math Ed (
http://www.education.umd.edu/TLPL/programs/MathEd/index.html).

Applicants must have the following: a doctorate in a relevant field,
achieved tenure, experience in PK-12 schools as a teacher or administrator,
and a record of research and scholarly publications commensurate with
expectations for rank at the University of Maryland in leading refereed
journals and respected professional outlets.

To capitalize on our existing efforts and to move them forward, TLPL seeks
a tenured colleague who will maintain a dual focus on teacher education
research and practice by:

education with a strong social justice orientation

· Revitalizing our cross-division specialization on teacher education
and

professional development

· Investigating and developing effective powerful models of teacher
education, induction, and professional development initiatives

· Focusing on the core competencies needed by graduates of our
programs to teach successfully in the large districts that are our
neighbors, and

· Mentoring junior colleagues, masters and doctoral students

We prefer a colleague who has a (a) strong record of mentoring graduate
students, particularly those from underrepresented groups, in research on
teacher education, (b) experience working in partnership with schools and
communities of learners who traditionally have been underserved, (c) a social
justice orientation toward schooling, (d) the demonstrated capacity to
secure external funding, and (e) a record of programmatic innovation in
teacher education.

All applications will be processed through the University of Maryland eTerp
system. Screening will begin on October 17, 2016, and will continue until
the position is filled. For best consideration, applicants should submit
their application prior to that date. Candidates should upload to
https://ejobs.umd.edu (a) letter of application describing research and
teaching interests and experiences addressing the above noted priorities,
(b) a curriculum vitae, (c) two samples of scholarship, and (d) names and
contact information for three professional references in the on-line
application. As the TLPL Department is committed to increasing the
diversity of the campus community, candidates are encouraged to identify
their experiences in working with a diverse range of faculty, staff and
students. For questions about the position, please contact the Search
Committee Chair, David Imig (davidimig at gmail.com). For questions about the
