*Research Assistant (PR005/17-18)*

The appointee will assist in a research project on political/diplomatic
interpreting. Duties and responsibilities of the appointee will involve but
not limited to a) web search and transcription of speeches and/or other
information in English and/or Cantonese/Putonghua; b) linguistic annotation
and analysis (e.g., pragmatic markers) of transcribed speeches in English
and/or Cantonese/Putonghua; and c) assisting in the development of computer
tools for corpus annotation and corpus navigation.

Applicants should possess at least a Bachelor's degree and have a strong
background in at least one of the following areas: pragmatics and/or
discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, applied linguistics, translation
studies, and/or computer programming. Proficiency in English is expected.
Previous research experience, in particular working knowledge in
corpus-analytic methodology and experience in data annotation, will be a
plus.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of one year.
Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability
of funding.
