Dear colleagues and friends,
We are thrilled to announce the Fall launch of George Mason's graduate certificate in Spanish Heritage Language Education! The application deadline for fall semester is August 1.
In this 15-credit certificate, which can be completed fully online, students will develop familiarity with the linguistic, sociolinguistic, and cultural characteristics of Spanish-speakers in the US; heritage language educational policy and practice; and social justice-oriented, antiracist approaches to teaching Spanish. The certificate prepares aspiring and in-service educators and affiliated professionals to advocate for heritage speakers of Spanish as well as to develop and implement teaching curricula, materials, and pedagogies for Spanish heritage language education.
Educators seeking professional development opportunities and graduate students at other universities are also welcome to enroll in individual courses as non-degree students.
This Fall we will offer FRLN 575 Heritage Language Education (Tuesdays 4:30-7:10PM Eastern time) and SPAN 503: Spanish Linguistics for Educators (Thursdays 4:30-7:10PM Eastern time).
More information is available at https://to.gmu.edu/shle.
We’d be grateful for your help getting the word out so please share widely within your networks!
thank you in advance,
Jenny
