<P><FONT size=2>School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics<BR>University of Sheffield<BR><BR>Lecturer in Applied Linguistics (1)<BR>Job Description<BR>Brief outline:<BR>The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent experience) and<BR>teaching and<BR>research strengths in language pedagogy covering one or more of the<BR>following areas:<BR>curriculum studies, English for specific purposes, classroom-based<BR>research, vocabulary<BR>studies, learner variation and CALL (Computer Assisted Language<BR>Learning). The ability to<BR>teach across a broad range will be an advantage, including, in areas<BR>beyond the candidates’<BR>primary research specialisation. The postholder will be required to<BR>provide teaching in<BR>connection with the MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL (Teacher of<BR>English to Speakers of<BR>Other Languages). This programme has been identified by the University<BR>as an area of<BR>significant potential growth. You will also be expected to contribute,<BR>as appropriate, to<BR>undergraduate teaching in the English Language and Linguistics BA, while<BR>developing the<BR>current Applied Linguistics portfolio, with the expectation that in due<BR>course teaching will be<BR>developed explicitly related to your own research.<BR><BR>Lecturer in Applied Linguistics (2)<BR>Job Description<BR>Brief outline:<BR>Applications are sought for a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics as part of<BR>the expansion of this<BR>successful area. The successful candidate will have a PhD (or equivalent<BR>experience) and<BR>teaching and research strengths in Discourse Analysis, with an ability<BR>to cover one or more of<BR>the following areas: pragmatics, English for specific purposes, classroom<BR>interaction/discourse, discourse in the professions, corpus linguistics,<BR>or discourse analysis<BR>for language teaching. You will also be expected to contribute, as<BR>appropriate, to<BR>undergraduate teaching in the English Language and Literature BA, while<BR>developing the<BR>current Applied Linguistics portfolio, with the expectation that in due<BR>course teaching will be<BR>developed explicitly related to your own research. The ability to teach<BR>across a broad range<BR>will be an advantage, including, if necessary, in areas beyond your<BR>primary research<BR>specialisation. You will be required to provide teaching in connection<BR>with the MA in Applied<BR>Linguistics with TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages).<BR><BR>Further Information<BR>These posts are available from September 2010.<BR>Informal enquiries: Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Gibson<BR>Ferguson on 0114 222<BR>0224 or at g.r.ferguson@shef.ac.uk<BR>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<BR><BR>Salary: Ł36,715 - Ł43,840 per annum pro rata, with the expectation of<BR>annual<BR>incremental progression. Potential to progress to Ł49,342 through<BR>sustained exceptional<BR>contribution<BR><BR>Closing date for both posts: Thursday 18th February 2010.<BR></FONT></P></DIV></BODY></HTML>
