The special focus<BR>theme proposed for the conference is universal vs. culture specific in the<BR>discourse of academic and professional rhetoric. The conference is taking place<BR>in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, from 10-12 June 2010.<BR><BR>Following the success of the 1st International Conference on Linguistic and<BR>Intercultural Education (CLIE1), hosted by the University of Alba Iulia (27-29<BR>November 2008), and the follow-up Exploratory Workshop (21-23 May 2009), which<BR>saw the establishment of the European Network for Intercultural Education<BR>Activities (ENIEDA), we are happy to announce that the CLIE2 conference intends<BR>to capitalise on the achievements and the collaborative spirit created during<BR>the two events and to explore further key questions on their agenda.<BR><BR>CLIE2, therefore, will remain open to linguistic and cross-cultural<BR>education-related topics broadly defined, looking more closely into the current<BR>dynamics in Europe between old and new trends, local and global tendencies,<BR>progressive and conservative views, stabilisation and destabilisation patterns,<BR>national and European identities. Even though our aim is to focus primarily on<BR>European learning communities and their culture specific identities, we would<BR>welcome participants representing other geographical and geo-political regions<BR>and their contributions as well.<BR><BR>2nd Call for Papers<BR><BR>Deadline Extension!<BR><BR>CLIE2 is open to linguistic and cross-cultural education-related topics broadly<BR>defined, looking more closely into the current dynamics in Europe between old<BR>and new trends, local and global tendencies, progressive and<BR>conservative views,<BR>stabilisation and destabilisation patterns, national and European identities.<BR>Even though our aim is to focus primarily on European learning communities and<BR>their culture specific identities, we would welcome participants representing<BR>other geographical and geo-political regions and their contributions as well.<BR><BR>Within this general thematic schema, the following frameworks and approaches<BR>are suggested:<BR><BR>(i) Theoretical/methodological frameworks<BR>Discourse Analysis, Rhetoric and (Intercultural) Pragmatics<BR>Second Language Acquisition<BR>Semantics and Stylistics<BR>Contrastive Linguistics<BR>Foreign Language Teaching and Teacher Education<BR>Sociolinguistics<BR>Translating, Interpreting and Mediation<BR>Communication Theory<BR>Education: best practices and policies<BR>E-education Platforms (and Language Learning)<BR><BR>(ii) Applied/empirical approaches<BR>Multilingualism and plurilingualism in Europe (and beyond)<BR>European learning communities and national/regional education policies<BR>Multilingual and multicultural literacy as a learning outcome<BR>Intercultural communication in academic and professional settings<BR>Intercultural competence within national curricula and current EU legislation<BR>Empowerment and discrimination through language<BR>Exposing racism, xenophobia and intolerance<BR>Developing European identity vs. preserving national/regional/local identities<BR>Intercultural communication and multicultural identities<BR><BR>The following keynote speakers confirmed their participation:<BR>Professor Cornelia Ilie, Malmo University, Sweden<BR>Professor Ljiljana Markovic, University of Belgrade, Serbia<BR>Professor Jacques Moeschler, University of Geneva, Switzerland<BR>Professor Itesh Sachdev, Soas, University of London, UK<BR>Mr Vidosav Stevanovic, writer and free lance journalist, Serbia/France<BR><BR>The main aim of the conference is to promote the values of multilingualism and<BR>intercultural cooperation in a rapidly changing and<BR>communication-driven society<BR>with cross-border and culture-convergent encounters. Our task is to re-examine<BR>and re-define key questions on our existing agenda, as well as to identify new<BR>collaborative and networking opportunities, both of which will inform future<BR>directions of research and development.<BR><BR>Languages of the conference are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and<BR>Russian.<BR><BR>We invite proposals for individual papers, panels/colloquia, workshops and<BR>posters on the topics suggested, but not strictly limited to the list above.<BR>They should be written in the language of the presentation and be up to 300<BR>words long. Individual papers are allotted 30 minutes (including discussion<BR>time), while panels/colloquia and workshops should last no longer than 90<BR>minutes per session.
