<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Senators are exploring ways to improve <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">U.S.</st1:place></st1:country-region> agencies' ability to understand and translate foreign languages, as experts and government reports express continuing concerns that the foreign-language deficiencies may undermine national security.<BR><BR>A Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs subcommittee will hear from experts on the subject and government officials at a hearing on Thursday. The subcommittee will explore deficiencies in federal foreign language capabilities and ways to improve them, according to the office of Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawaii), the subcommittee chairman.</P>
