<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">This summer at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">United States</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Naval</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Academy</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>, a small battle has been won in a larger campaign that might be termed a culture war.</P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Last month, the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Naval</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Academy</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> department then known as Department of Language Studies quietly changed its name to Department of Language and Cultures. </P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">It hardly registers as big news. But to Clementine Fujimura, the lone anthropology professor at the <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Annapolis</st1:place></st1:City> campus, the change is "huge."</P>

<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Why? "Because it's acknowledging that the Navy is accepting that we need to be teaching about culture," she said.</P>
