<DIV style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Times New Roman'"><I><FONT face=Arial size=3><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; FONT-STYLE: italic; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Language Policy</SPAN></FONT></I><FONT face=Arial><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> is planning a thematic issue on how policies at local, national, and transnational levels are enacting and enforcing the high status of English academic publishing and the impact of such policies on scholars and students, research and teaching, and institutional practices in different geographical contexts. English is often viewed as the <I><SPAN style="FONT-STYLE: italic">lingua franca</SPAN></I> of scholarly publishing in many disciplines, particularly in the sciences and social sciences. The rise of English as the presumed global medium of scholarly publication has resulted in both obvious and less obvious consequences for individual scholars and for the enterprise of knowledge production. We invite empirical and theoretical papers that examine the effects and enactments of these policies and explore the consequences for knowledge making globally.</SPAN></FONT></DIV></DIV>
