At the 2011<BR>LESLLA Symposium, we are pleased to announce that Professors Andrea DeCapua<BR>and Helaine Marshall will give a keynote address. Drs. DeCapua and Marshall<BR>have written and presented extensively about instruction for low-literate<BR>learners. They are the authors of the 2011 book Breaking New Ground:<BR>Teaching Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education in Secondary<BR>Schools, soon to be released from the University of Michigan Press. Contact Patsy Vinogradov at vino0006@umn.edu<BR><BR>What is LESLLA?<BR>LESLLA stands for Low Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition Low<BR>Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition (LESLLA) for Adults is an<BR>international forum of researchers, teacher educators, and practitioners who<BR>share an interest in research on the development of second language skills<BR>by adult immigrants with little or no schooling prior to entering their new<BR>countries.<BR><BR>The goal of the LESLLA is to share empirical research and information to<BR>help inform and guide further research on second language acquisition for<BR>the low-educated adult population. Please contact Patsy Vinogradov at<BR>vino0006@umn.edu<BR><BR>* * *<BR><BR>LESLLA 2011 Call for Presentations<BR><BR>Research, Practice, and Policy for Low-educated Second Language and Literacy<BR>Acquisition - for Adults (LESLLA)<BR>Low Educated Second Language and Literacy Acquisition (LESLLA) for Adults is<BR>an international forum of researchers who share an interest in research into<BR>the development of second language skills by adult immigrants and refugees<BR>with little or no schooling in the home country, low levels of literacy in<BR>the native language, and limited proficiency in the language of the new<BR>country.<BR><BR>LESLLA's goal is to share empirical research and information that will guide<BR>further studies on second language acquisition for the adult immigrant<BR>population with limited formal education. This research, in turn, is meant<BR>to influence educational policy development in all those countries where<BR>immigrants settle and are likely to need educational support.<BR><BR>LESLLA welcomes presentation proposals for the 7th annual conference to be<BR>held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, September 29-October 1, 2011. We are<BR>anticipating a large conference with a mix of researchers, teacher<BR>educators, program administrators, and practitioners.
