<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class=MsoNormal>All foreign English teachers seeking employment in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Indonesia</st1:country-region></st1:place> must be individually approved by Diknas. There are many requirements that have come into force over the past 18 months or so, but being a native speaker is no longer one of them. Instead the Department has issued a negative list of 18 countries, whose nationals would not be eligible for a work permit. (These countries include much of Africa, including <st1:country-region w:st="on">South Africa</st1:country-region>, and many parts of the <st1:place w:st="on">Middle East</st1:place>.)</P>
