The School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) is<br>
seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Language Acquisition and Language<br>
Socialisation whose duties will be in teaching, research, and<br>
administration.<br>
<br>
Teaching duties will involve convening and teaching at the under- and<br>
postgraduate level, with contributions in teaching, course- and programme<br>
development to the existing BA and MA programmes in the department, in<br>
particular to BA Linguistics, MA Linguistics, MA Applied Linguistics and<br>
Language Pedagogy, MA Language Documentation and Description, and the new<br>
BA (Global) English. A willingness to be involved in the development of a<br>
new portfolio of courses and degree programmes is vital.<br>
<br>
Applicants should hold a PhD in Linguistics or related discipline. Their<br>
research should focus on first/second language acquisition and<br>
socialisation involving at least one Asian or African language. Additional<br>
expertise in discourse analysis and/or anthropological linguistics and/or<br>
pragmatics and/or multilingualism is desirable. Also required are the<br>
ability to supervise PhD students, a strong research background as<br>
evidenced by an excellent publication record, and a strong record of<br>
teaching experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills, an<br>
ability to work independently in an organised and methodical manner, and<br>
strong teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential. The appointee will<br>
be expected to work closely with staff and students in the Department of<br>
Linguistics, including the Endangered Languages Academic Programme, and the<br>
Endangered Languages Archive.<br>

The closing date for applications is 4th July 2013, and interviews are<br>
provisionally scheduled for week commencing 29th July; the preferred<br>
starting date would be January 2014.<br>
