<p dir="ltr">The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education seeks applications from individuals with scholarly interests and expertise in English as a Second Language in K-12 settings and Second Language Teacher Education. The position
is a tenure track appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor level within the World Languages Education program with an expectation of participation in the graduate program in Curriculum and Instruction. Faculty members normally teach both undergraduate
and graduate courses each year.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The position offers opportunities to prepare pre-service teachers for meeting the needs of the growing population of English learners in K-12 public schools and contribute to the College’s rapidly expanding ESL certificate program and the initial
teacher certification program in World Languages. Opportunities also include involvement in the development of collaborative international exchange programs for pre-service and in-service teachers focused on second language learning.</p>

<p dir="ltr">This is a tenure track, 36-week appointment with the possibility of supplementary summer appointments in research and/or teaching. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Full University benefits apply. Penn State has a strong

<p dir="ltr"><b>Responsibilities:</b></p>
<div dir="ltr">
<ul>
<li>Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities related to ESL or second language teacher education
</li><li>Teach courses in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, supervise doctoral students in their programs and research, and supervise graduate teaching and/or research assistants;
</li></ul>
</div>
<ul>
<li>Contribute to the ESL certificate and World Languages Education programs, including teaching courses and helping develop international exchange programs and school-based and international field experiences
</li><li>Provide leadership for continued development and staffing of a multi-section course that prepares future teachers to meet the needs of English learners
</li><li>Provide service, outreach, and leadership to the University, educational institutions, agencies, and professional organizations and learned societies</li></ul>
<p><span><b>Required Qualifications:</b></span> </p>
<ul>
<li>Earned doctorate in education, applied linguistics/TESOL, second language acquisition, or a closely related field;
</li><li>Evidence of a commitment to developing a significant program of research, commensurate with experience;
</li><li>Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising, including a willingness to teach in online environments along with an interest in the use of modern technology, commensurate with experience;
</li><li>Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds, commensurate with experience.<span><br>

<p><span><b>Desirable Qualifications:</b></span> </p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge of a language other than English </li><li>Experience teaching a second language, particularly ESL in K-12 settings </li><li>Experience teaching in culturally diverse settings and working with people from diverse backgrounds
</li><li>Experience with uses of instructional technology </li><li>Experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers through school-university partnerships and/or in international settings
</li><li>Demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate-level courses and mentoring graduate students (commensurate with experience)
</li><li>Expertise in theoretical perspectives that recognize language as social practice and focus on second language development through engagement in meaningful activity
</li><li>Willingness to work in cross-disciplinary teams within teacher education programs
</li></ul>
