<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The use of multiple languages may be seen as paradoxical in classrooms where instruction is nominally English-only, such as the case of English-medium instruction (EMI). However, the

 phenomenon of translanguaging 每 as a theoretical perspective and a pedagogical practice 每 in EMI is, in fact, not a new one.</span></p>

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In this presentation, the three editors, BethAnne Paulsrud, Zhongfeng Tian and Jeanette Toth, will first introduce the volume, with its critical exploration of definitions, methodologies,

 and ideologies of EMI. The volume brings together a number of conceptual and empirical studies on different educational levels, in a variety of countries, with different approaches to translanguaging, different named languages, and different policies.</span></p>

 and constraints associated with the use of multiple linguistic resources in the EMI classroom. We end the presentation with an open discussion about how these studies contribute to new understandings of translanguaging as theory and pedagogy across diverse

 contexts, as well as about the future directions for this research field.</span></p>
