In this article, we argue that language teachers need a different conversation about generative AI — one that moves beyond efficiency and productivity and instead centers pedagogy, ethics, equity, and human judgment. Drawing on a human-centered approach, we

 introduce the Position–Design–Enact (PDE) framework, which encourages educators to think critically about how AI is positioned in classroom ecologies, how learning tasks are intentionally designed, and how AI-supported interactions unfold in practice. Across

 all three dimensions, we emphasize the importance of criticality, including questions of language ideologies, representation and bias, authority and agency, and ownership and ethics.</div>
