	Dear colleagues!

It is a real valid work done here! I do not want to criticize it
negatively, but I must add that the autochthonous European sign
languages of deaf people have been forgotten in these lists. We are
struggling in the moment to get these languages acknowledged in all
European countries where this did not happen already. So it would be
very helpful to integrate the sogn languages at least in these list (I
know that there were some contacts).

	Best regards

The reason why Sign languages are excluded from the studies of
	European
minority languages and from the European Charter for Regional or
	Minority
Languages is political. After the break down of the political
	structures in
Eastern Europe the Council of Europe focussed much attention on
	minorities,
because these regions could spark ethnic conflicts. By supporting
	their
linguistic rights it was considered that this would reduce the risk
	of=
	 ethnic
conflicts. Spekers of Sign languages are rarely perceived as an
	ethnic=
	 group,
	 or associated with conflict.
