     Dear ELLers,

A minority language group in SE Asia is examining guidelines on
borrowing foreign terms into their language as more and more of
	       their
people need to talk about computers, cellular phones,
	       inoculations,
	            etc. in that language.

Some countries have specific agencies to determine
		         how words and
concepts can be borrowed into their languages.

This language group desires to maintain a
			           definite local flavor to the
terms that they use to describe
			           technology and concepts from outside.

They would like to be able to consider
				        what other speech communities
					     are doing in this area.

So is anyone on this list
					          able to forward policies
					          that French, German
						       or other regulatory /
					          advisory agencies have used
					          to guide their work?
						       These people would very
					          much like to consider the
					          issues that others
						       have considered
					          important in the whole
					          process.

						       Please forward any
						       helpful materials to me
						       at this address, or
						       post
						            them on the ELL if
						       they are short
						       enough. I will forward
						       them on to
						            the minority group
						       people.

						            Thank you
							         Tom Tehan,
							         Payap
							         University
							         and SIL
