My understanding is that the WSJ op-ed writers consistently march to
a different, and notoriously much more conservative, drummer than the
reporters and editors who provide the content of the rest of the paper.
It is quite reasonable to respect the news stories while grimacing in
disbelief at the editorials.  If you are of an even mildly liberal bent,
the best way to keep your stomach acid within tolerable levels is to
give the op-ed section a wide berth, five days a week.
