The 27th annual California Conference on American Indian Education is
being held in Los Angeles, CA on April 22-24, 2004. This conference is
one of the longest running meetings dedicated to learning how to better
serve the educational need of American Indians. Conference supporters
are the California State Department Of Education-American Indian
Education Office, California Indian Education Centers
(http://www.cde.ca.gov/iasa/indian.html).

The theme for the conference is “Self-Determination Through Education”
and will showcase 27 years of the successes; growth and impact the
American Indian Education Centers have had on the American Indian
community in California. Tim Giago founder of Indian Country Today and
currently a candidate For The US Senate from South Dakota will be the
Keynote Speaker. Other activities include Elders Honoring Banquet,
Native vendors, Educator, Student and Parent of the Year Awards, a
reception featuring a performance by Joy Harjo (also invited Charlie
Hill, Arigon Starr, Floyd Westerman Carey Dunn, California Tribal
cultural presentations and an inter-Tribal Pow Wow. There will also be a
health screening area and children's activity room.

The California Indian Education Conference is on of the most respected
presentations of its kind so you are kindly invited to join us to see
what is taking place in California to better meet the educational needs
of Native students. From Charter School development, to cultural
curriculum frameworks this promises to be an exciting conference
