charAt for String in Ebasic?

Hello,
I am new to Eprime and Ebasic and I have been fiddling around with string
manipulation.
Is there no way to get the index of a particular character in a string (eg.
charAt in Java)? And is there no way to get the substring either?
Thank you very much for your help!
