Hello. I have just joined the listserve and would like to introduce myself.
My Ph.D. is in Anthropology, from Berkeley, 1993. I taught at the University
of Minnesota, Morris and Miami University¹s (OH) School of Interdisciplinary
Studies before joining the faculty at the University of Minnesota, where I
am currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass
Communication. I¹ve published two books, War Stories, the Culture of Foreign
Correspondents (Routledge 1995) and Musical Ritual in Mexico City
(University of Texas 2004). The majority of my work has involved
ethnographic field study. The last several years have been dedicated to
ethnographic study of political popular music, which includes performing in
local venues with a band. I am very interested in integrating quantitative
methods into ethnographic projects. I teach a grad seminar entitled
Ethnographic Methods in Mass Communication Research. I look forward to being
a part of the Ethnocomm community.
