Dear members of Etnolinguística,

I am pleased to inform about the following publication:

Gakaman, Gapgir ey Xagah: Amõ Gapgnir Iway Amõ Anar Segah: ayap mi  
Materet ey mame Ikõr Nih / Histórias do Clã Gapgir ey e o mito do  
Gavião Real (See cover attached to this message)

This is the first book written by the Paiter (Suruí) Indians of  
Rondônia (Mondé family, Tupian) in their own language. The book,  
authored by Gakaman, is divided into three sections:

Amõ Gapgnir Iway / Hitórias antigas dos Paitér (p. 10-39)
Amõ Anar Segah / História do contato com os brancos (p. 40-69)
Ikõr Nih / O Gavião real (p. 70-95)

The three chapters have translations into Portuguese.
The publication has had financial support from IPHAN, Ministery of  
Culture, Brazil, the PETROBRAS, and The CAPES/SECAD, Ministery of  
Education, and has received linguistic technical support from the  
Laboratório de Línguas Indígenas (LALI) of the University of Brasília.  
Other supporting institutions are Museu do Índio/FUNAI, Cacoal  
Municipal Administration, and Instituto Empreender.

The publication is the result of the Gapgir ey clan and represents  
their efforts in registering their traditional knowledge and in  
reinforcing their written language.
The writing process for the Paitér (Suruí) language has benefited from  
the anthropological assistance of Dr. Betty Mindlin and of Magda  
Pucci, as well as of the linguists Dr. Ana Suelly Arruda Câmara and  
Dr. Aryon Dall’Igna Rodrigues, and most importantly has had the  
intellectual and linguistic support from the elders of the group.

It is important to remark that this book is relevant for consolidating  
the orthography agreed upon by the members of the the Paiter community.

Este é o primeiro livro escrito por índios Paitér (Suruí) de Rondônia  
(família Mondé, tronco Tupí) em sua própria língua.

O livro, de autoria de Gakaman, é dividido em três seções:

Amõ Gapgnir Iway / Hitórias antigas dos Paitér (p. 10-39)
Amõ Anar Segah / História do contato com os brancos (p. 40-69)
Ikõr Nih / O Gavião real (p. 70-95)

Os três capítulos têm traduções para o Português.
A publicação obteve apoio financeiro do IPHAN/Ministério da Cultura,  
da PETROBRAS, da CAPES/SECAD, Ministério da Educação e recebeu tanto  
apoio financeiro quanto técnico-linguístico do Laboratório de Línguas  
Indígenas (LALI) da Universidade de Brasília. Outras Instituições que  
apoiaram a publicação foram o Museu do Índio/FUNAI, a Prefeitura  
Municipal de Cacoal e o Instituto Empreender.

A publicação é resultado do trabalho do clã Gapgir e representa os  
seus esforços em registrar o seu conhecimento tradicional e reforçar  
seu sistema de escrita.

O processo de escrita pelos Paitér (Suruí) de sua língua nativa se  
beneficiou da assessoria da antropóloga Dra. Betty Mindlin e de Magda  
Pucci, assim como dos linguistas Dra. Ana Suelly Arruda Câmara e o Dr.  
Aryon Dall’Ígna Rodrigues, e mais importantemente, teve o apoio  
intelectual e linguístico dos sábios do grupo.

É importante salientar que esse livro é relevante para consolidar a  
ortografia com a qual concordam membros da comunidade Paitér.
