artigo que trata de prefixos relacionais em Mundurukú. Antes de
continuarmos esta discussão, acho necessário fazer um esclarecimento sobre o que
eu chamo de relacionais (que não parece ser exatamente a mesma coisa que você
considera como relacionais). Como Rodrigues (1953), eu considero como
relacionais apenas os prefixos que marcam 'contigüidade' com itens da
classe II (em geral, uma consoante alveolar ou palatal lene, nas diversas
línguas: <EM>d-</EM> em Karajá e Mundurukú, <EM>dz-</EM> e <EM>y-</EM> em
Kariri, etc.). Acho o uso do termo 'relacional' para se referir a marcadores de
terceira pessoa ou a uma profusão de afixos zero um equívoco. Se
levarmos esta prática um pouco mais longe, acabaríamos chegando à
conclusão de que toda e qualquer língua que estabeleça distinções gramaticais
entre nomes obrigatoriamente possuídos e nomes alienavelmente possuídos (e que
use marcadores de terceira pessoa como <EM>default</EM>, o que é extremamente
comum) teriam prefixos relacionais, o que esvaziaria o valor do termo (que tem,
eu creio, excelente valor diagnóstico das relações genéticas entre Tupí,
Macro-Jê e Karib). Acho que o uso de marcadores de terceira pessoa (<EM>i-</EM>,
<EM>t-</EM> e seus equivalentes nas demais línguas) como 'marcadores de não
contigüidade' é meramente uma conseqüência da obrigatoriedade de certos itens
lexicais ocorrerem com seu argumento absolutivo. Caso o nome (ou verbo, ou
adposição) não seja diretamente precedido de seu determinante, o prefixo de
terceira pessoa é usado. No caso de verbos, por exemplo, isto não seria
muito diferente do que ocorre em inglês, com o uso do <EM>it</EM> expletivo.
Deveríamos, então, chamar <EM>it</EM> de 'relacional de não contigüidade'?

fonológica regular de alternância entre oclusivas surdas e sonoras, como você
explica (página 7). Portanto, no caso dos prefixos relacionais da classe II
(repito: os únicos que trato como prefixos relacionais propriamente ditos), como

Mundurukú são de fato raros. Não é por acaso que estas duas palavras referem-se
a itens que são, em geral, alienavelmente possuíveis. Como em Karirí (vide
<EM>era</EM> 'casa', <EM>udza</EM> 'faca', etc.) tais itens podem ocorrer 'nus',
sem prefixo algum, exatamente porque são alienavelmente possuíveis; postular a
existência de 'relacionais de não contigüidade' neste caso seria uma
extrapolação desnecessária, creio eu. Apesar de serem menos comuns, itens como
estes demonstram que o valor do prefixo <EM>t-</EM> (e seus equivalentes nas
demais línguas) é de fato uma marca de terceira pessoa (ou 'não pessoa', como
queiram). A distinção entre as classes I e II é puramente morfológica
(certamente com uma motivação fonológica, diacronicamente) e, por isso, ambas as
classes incluem tanto itens alienáveis quanto itens

parecer, em princípio, que tudo isso não passe de picuinhas terminológicas. Mas
vai muito além, resultando em diferentes concepções sobre a gramática das
línguas atuais (bem como de uma hipotética proto-língua). Tenho notado uma
tendência generalizada, em descrições mais recentes de línguas Jê e
Tupí(-Guaraní), de se criarem lacunas descritivas artificiais, no que diz
respeito às séries de prefixos pessoais: todas estas línguas teriam marcadores
de primeira e segunda pessoas, mas não de terceira. Que isto ocorra em diversas
línguas do mundo, não resta dúvida (tenho em mente o trabalho clássico de
Benveniste a respeito das diferenças em tratamento gramatical entre a
terceira e as demais pessoas). Mas, no caso do Jê e Tupí-Guaraní, trata-se na
grande maioria dos casos de uma lacuna artificial, resultante da explosão
demográfica de 'prefixos relacionais', de acordo com as preferências
teórico-descritivas dos autores. Uma das explicações que ouvi para o tratamento
generalizado de prefixos de terceira pessoa como 'relacionais de não
contigüidade' tem a ver com o fato de que os prefixos <EM>d-</EM> e
<EM>t-</EM> ocupam paradigmaticamente a mesma posição. Isto é,
naturalmente, a <EM>non sequitur</EM>. Se me lembro bem das aulas de
morfologia que tive com Aryon Rodrigues nos idos de 1994, relacionais, como o
nosso <EM>d-</EM>, são (ou teriam sido originalmente) marcas de contigüidade
sintática, não morfológica. Mais uma vez, isto confere aos relacionais aquele
valor diagnóstico a que me referi antes: se um determinado morfema pronominal
não requer o uso do prefixo relacional, ligando-se diretamente à raiz, isto
provavelmente significa que este morfema pronominal já era um prefixo no tempo
em que relacionais surgiram. No caso do Tupí-Guaraní, isto significa
simplesmente que <EM>t-</EM> (e, parece-me, também o morfema de terceira
pessoa co-referencial <EM>o-</EM>) já seriam prefixos muito antes de outros
morfemas pessoais terem se tornado morfologicamente dependentes (vide, a
respeito disso, o artigo do Spike Gildea nos anais do Encontro de Belém; Gildea

claramente sugerido pela comparação de dados do Karirí (1), do Karajá (2) e do
Ofayé (3) abaixo. Com itens da classe II, o prefixo de segunda pessoa
liga-se diretamente à raiz, sem prefixo relacional. Se Tupí e Macro-Jê são de
fato relacionados geneticamente, é provável que o Tupí tenha inovado na marcação
de segunda pessoa; o Macro-Jê (mais uma vez) se mostraria mais conservador. [Nos
exemplos abaixo, uso 0 'zero' para marcar o prefixo de segunda pessoa que ocorre
com itens da classe II; é provável que este prefixo tenha a mesma origem do
prefixo que ocorre com itens da classe I (<EM>a-</EM> em Karajá, <EM>e-</EM> em
Ofayé), tendo caído ou se fundido com a vogal inicial dos temas da classe II; em
Karirí, é a primeira vogal da raiz que

marcador de terceira pessoa, digamos *<EM>i-.</EM> A ocorrência deste
prefixo antes de raízes começadas por vogal favoreceria sua 'assilabificação'
(algo assim ocorre sincronicamente com os prefixos <EM>i-</EM> e <EM>u-</EM> em
Mundurukú, por exemplo). Teríamos, então, *<EM>i-</EM> alternando com uma forma
assilábica, *<EM>j-</EM> ou *<EM>dz-</EM>, suponhamos. Suponhamos que, nesta
fase, construções como 'a casa do homem' fossem construídas de acordo com o
modelo [homem sua-casa], como ainda ocorre em algumas línguas (Boróro, por
exemplo; é isso mesmo, Adriana?). Este <EM>*dz-</EM> ou <EM>*j-</EM>
hipotético seria ensurdecido em certos ambientes morfossintáticos (ou seja,
quando não precedidos de um nome ou pronome no mesmo sintagma). Teríamos, assim,
a origem das alternâncias que se verificam hoje nas diversas línguas, envolvendo
relacionais e marcadores de terceira pessoa.
