Mexico, Oct 9-12, 2003<BR><BR>The 2003 The International Colloquium for
Vernacular, Hispanic, Historical,<BR>American and Folklore Studies will take
place in Puebla, Mexico from 9 to<BR>12 October 2003.<BR><BR>Panels on
indigenous literatures of the Americas are currently being<BR>organised, and
contributions from all perspectives are welcome to explore<BR>topics such as:
particular writers, texts or genres; emerging and<BR>re-emerging literatures in
both oral and written media; literatures within<BR>their social, political and
cultural contexts, including revitalization<BR>movements; issues of access and
control, including literacy and<BR>translation; and the encounter of the
indigenous and non-indigenous worlds<BR>in indigenous texts.<BR><BR>The
Vernacular Congress began as a cultural section of the Congress of
the<BR>Americas, which itself was established after the 1994 economic crisis
made<BR>it difficult for Latin American academics to attend meetings in the
United<BR>States. The 2001 Congress of the Americas attracted more than 900
