<DIV><FONT size=2>Mais uma perguntinha sobre o Karirí. Nesta língua ocorrem duas palavras com o significado de 'negro, africano': <EM>tapanhú</EM> e <EM>gorá.</EM> A primeira é claramente um empréstimo Tupí-Guaraní (<EM>tapanhúna</EM> no dicionário Tupí de Martius (1867), por exemplo), tendo sido adotada por várias outras línguas não-Tupí. A segunda, que tem distribuição mais restrita no corpus analisado até agora, encontra um provável cognato em Borum (Botocudo, Aymoré, Krenák): M. de L. de Paula Martins (Vocabulário Botocudo, Miscellanea P. Rivet, p. 420) dá <EM>engóra</EM> 'negro' ["<EM>en</EM> scarcely audible"], com a sugestão de que é "[E]vidently from the Portuguese".</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT size=2>Ainda que esta hipótese seja plausível, acho mais provável que, mesmo que sua origem fosse em última instância o português (será?), tais palavras teriam ingressado em Karirí e Borum por intermédio de uma outra língua (talvez o mesmo Tupí da Costa, ou a Língua Geral Paulista) -- algo como o que se verifica com palavras como <EM>kawaru</EM> 'cavalo' e <EM>mabera</EM> 'papel' em Karajá, que são claramente de origem portuguesa, mas ingressaram no léxico Karajá provavelmente através de uma ou outra Língua Geral.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Haveria naturalmente a hipótese de que esta palavra seria originalmente ou Karirí, ou Borum, tendo se difundido por contato entre as duas tribos, já que os Karirí (mais particularmente os Camurú e os Sapuyá) teriam tido como inimigos os Botocudos, ao sul (Robert H. Lowie, Handbook of South American Indians, v. 1, 557-558). Mas quero checar, antes, a possibilidade de que seja mais um dos vários empréstimos Tupí encontrados nestas línguas, para só então investigar esta possibilidade.</DIV>
