From Serafin M Coronel-Molina (scoronel@Princeton.EDU) June 6, 2005:

Below is a link to an interesting multilingual resource for Quechua and
Aymara -- an online searchable dictionary for these languages -- that is
available on the website of the "Programa Huascarán" in the Ministry of
Education of Peru. It is best viewed with Internet Explorer.

VOCABULARIO POLIGLOTA INCAICO [1905] (1998 EN INTERNET)
(Spanish, 4 dialects of Quechua, and Aymara)

Introduction:

http://www.huascaran.edu.pe/vocabulario/vocabulario.htm

Searchable Contents of the Vocabulario:

http://www.huascaran.edu.pe/CIApps/Curricular/Diccionario/index.htm

Readers of the SSILA Bulletin may also be interested in knowing
that
Microsoft has developed a Quechua language version of Windows XP.
The following news story appeared in the Sunday Times of South Africa
(of all places) on Friday, November 12, 2004:

Microsoft will translate its blockbuster "Windows" and "Office" software
into Quechua, the language of the indigenous Inca, for Andean nations
from Argentina to Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, where it
is spoken, the company said on Thursday.

Microsoft opted to bring today's high-tech software to speakers of
Quechua as it is the most widely spoken indigenous language in Latin
America, by almost 10 million people, said Marushka Chocobar,
Microsoft's educational liaison in Lima.

The Quechua-language version of Windows XP and Office 2003, being
developed in Peru, will be available in 2005.

This marks the first time Microsoft has translated its software into
an
indigenous language of Latin America, and is aimed at boosting literacy
programs largely among the poor.

[After a little digging, we came up with the following additional
information: Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) now ships with
25 new ELKs ("Enabling Language Kits"). Among these are ELKs for three
"locales" of Quechua (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru). If you run Windows with
a Quechua ELK selected, your system will automatically be provided
with a Quechua keyboard, alphabetization, font, and other "localized"
features (local currency, time/date format, etc.) For further details
see: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B883262&x=13&y=11
-Ed.]
