<div>Estimados colegas de la Lista:</div> <div>La palabra (o una de las palabras) Kadiweu para 'palmera', <STRONG>edZiwa</STRONG> es --muy posiblemente-- cognada de las correspondientes formas en las lenguas Guaicurúes Meridionales: Mocoví <STRONG>tSa:w-ik</STRONG>, Pilagá y Toba <STRONG>tSa-yk</STRONG>, Toba Antiguo <STRONG>tyaw-ik </STRONG>(escrito <STRONG><tiabich></STRONG>). La terminación <STRONG>-ik</STRONG> es un clasificador léxico para nombres de plantas. Se puede reconstruir Proto-Guaicurú Meridional (PGM) <STRONG>*tyaw-ik</STRONG>. El sufijo -<STRONG>ik </STRONG>puede hacer caer una vocal *<STRONG>a</STRONG> precedente, como en Toba <STRONG>na'aly-ik</STRONG> 'mistol' (un árbol), formado a partir de <STRONG>na'ala</STRONG> 'fruta del mistol'. Aunque es el único caso hasta ahora encontrado de K <STRONG>dZi </STRONG>: PGM *<STRONG>tya</STRONG>, la comparación de Kadiweu <STRONG>edZiwa</STRONG> y PGM <STRONG>*tyaw-ik</STRONG> se apoya en
algunos ejemplos en que <STRONG>dZ</STRONG> de la primera lengua corresponde a <STRONG>*t</STRONG> (ante vocal alta anterior) del PGM, como </div> <div>Kadiweu <STRONG>adZidi</STRONG> : PGM <STRONG>*tita </STRONG>> Toba <STRONG>tSita</STRONG> 'grasa'</div> <div>Kadiweu -<STRONG>dZigot </STRONG>'dar' : PGM *<STRONG>tigot </STRONG>> Toba <STRONG>tSigot </STRONG>'dámelo'.</div> <div>Y la correspondencia entre Kadiweu <STRONG>Ci</STRONG> y PGM <STRONG>*CyV</STRONG> es recurrente, cf.:</div> <div>Kadiweu (Griffiths & Griffiths 1976) <STRONG>-otiqon</STRONG> 'silbar' : PGM *<STRONG>-otyoGon</STRONG> > Abipón <STRONG>atSaGan-ak</STRONG> 'silbido'</div> <div>Kadiweu (Griffiths & Griffiths 1976) <STRONG>-opite</STRONG> 'alcanzar con un arma' : PGM <STRONG>-apyat > </STRONG>Pilagá<STRONG> </STRONG>-<STRONG>apyát</STRONG> 'herir', etc.</div> <div>La forma Proto-Guaicurú para 'palmera' puede haber sido, entonces, algo como
<STRONG>*(e)tSyawa</STRONG> (probablemente, con una disimilación <STRONG>*tSy </STRONG>> <STRONG>*ty</STRONG> en PGM)...</div> <div>Ahora bien, en las lenguas de la familia Mataguayo tenemos: Wichí <STRONG>xwitsu-k</STRONG>, Chorote <STRONG>wisyu-k</STRONG>, Niwaklé <STRONG>ftsu'-k</STRONG>, Maká <STRONG>fitsu-k</STRONG> 'palmera' (Proto-Mataguayo <STRONG>*xwitsu-k</STRONG>), en que <STRONG>-k</STRONG> final es (como <STRONG>-ik </STRONG>en guaicurú meridional) un clasificador léxico que aparece en sustantivos referidos a vegetales.</div> <div>Una comparación entre Proto-Guaicurú (PG) <STRONG>*(e)tsyawa</STRONG> y Proto-Mataguayo (PM) <STRONG>*xwitsu-k</STRONG> no parece en modo alguno descabellada, dado que PG *<STRONG>tsy </STRONG>parecería un buen correlato de PM *<STRONG>ts</STRONG>,<STRONG> </STRONG>tanto como la secuencia PG <STRONG>*awa</STRONG> lo sería de PM <STRONG>u</STRONG> (aunque no tengo --hasta el momento-- otros ejemplos
de tales correspondencias), mientras que Mataguayo <STRONG>*xw</STRONG> correspondiendo a Guaicurú cero recurre en casos como:</div> <div>PM <STRONG>*-xwiyA</STRONG> : PG <STRONG>*-ayo</STRONG> 'volar', </div> <div>PM <STRONG>*xwite-ts </STRONG>'raíces' : Kadiweu (Gruffiths & Griffiths) <STRONG>-itodi</STRONG> 'raíz' (donde -<STRONG>di</STRONG> podría ser un antiguo sufijo de plural, incorporado).</div> <div>Dejando de lado --por ahora-- la conjetura "Macro-Guaicurú" (según la cual, las lenguas Guaicurúes y Mataguayas podrían estar remotamente emparentadas), me pregunto si no será posible que la semejanza entre las formas para 'palmera' reconstruibles en PG y PM se pueda explicar como resultado de difusión. La especie de palmera a que se refieren estos nombres parece ser la <EM>Copernicia alba</EM>, y esta era de alguna importancia económica en el Chaco, cf Arenas (2003: 282): "Los tobas y wichis aprecian el consumo de los brotes y tejidos
tiernos del ápice del tallo, así como los frutos frescos. Sin embargo, es un alimento que actualmente casi no se usa (...)"</div> <div>Quisiera saber si algún miembro de la Lista conoce algún caso de préstamo (cierto o posible) de nombres de palmeras en otras lenguas indígenas sudamericanas.
