lusitano por excelência; em piadas de português, há sempre um Manuel (às vezes,
acompanhado por um Joaquim), retratado como um sujeito pouco esperto -- ou seja,

<P>Oi Jefferson,<BR><BR><BR>creio que a palavra "não" ( <I>_ã?ã_</I> e
semelhantes) não é apropriada para tirar quaisquer conclusões sobre relações
lingüísticas. Já a forma (em particular, a reduplicação) mostra que a
palavra se assemelha mais a uma onomatopeia ou é pelo menos um simbolsimo
sonoro.<BR><BR>Em muitas línguas claramente não relacionadas você pode indicar
"não" desta forma, inclusive em Alemão, minha língua materna (lá são dois
Schwas com oclusivas glotais, e sem ser nasal). Importante é a intonação
-- a primeira sílaba tem que ser mais alta do que a segunda.<BR><BR>Se você
inverte esta intonação, você obtem uma forma que diversas línguas pode
sinhalar um "sim". Inclusive em Awetí a única palavra isolada para "sim"
é <I>_eh~e_</I> (com nasalidade no segundo e, e por harmonia nasal também no
primeiro), com tonalidade alta na segunda sílaba, e apesar de agora já
lexicalizada (ela aparece até em lexicalizações, como <I>_eh~e 'etu_</I>
"concordar", literalmente "dizer sim"), ela não me parece apropriada para
estudos diacrônicos exatamente pela forma de onomatopeia. Mas é
interessante que em várias línguas do Alto Xingú se diz "sim" assim, pode ser
um indício para empréstimos (fraco, já que fora da área esta simbologia também
existe).<BR><BR>Oi seja, estou convicto que estas formas para "sim" e "não"
podem muito melhor servir para um estudo para possíveis universais (se a
intonação é confirmada em muitas línguas, inclusive em outros continentes, e
se o material segmental para carregar esta intonação muda conforme os padrões
fonológicos de cada língua) do que para relações genéticas entre
línguas.<BR><BR>Quanto à palavra "xará", a explicação da origem desta que ouvi
era que seria corruptela de <I>_xe-réra_</I>, "meu nome", do Guaraní.
Mas sempre me perguntei porque ou a vogal tônica mudou sua qualidade de
<I>_e_</I> para <I>_a_</I>, ou porque então o acento lexcical mudou para a
última sílaba (o <I>_a_ </I>do famoso caso genérico do Tupí-Guaraní) e porque
a sílaba <I>_re_</I> depois teria caido. Há muitos outros empréstimos do
Tupí (ou Guaraní) em que nenhuma das duas mudanças ocorreu. Mas as
explicações apresentadas até agora também não me convencem muito
(<EM>apixara</EM> também teria que mudar seu acento lexical), então talvez
valha contribuir com esta... <BR><BR>Não sei nada a dizer sobre <I>_mané_</I>
