<DIV>Siendo la lateral palatal (o palatalizada) un fonema relativamente raro en las lenguas del mundo, resulta extraordinariamente llamativo lo frecuente que es en las lenguas andinas: en efecto, se encuentra como fonema al menos en Quechua, Aimara, Cholón, Mochica, Esmeraldeño, Kamsá, Uru-Chipaya, Puquina (y Callahuaya), Amuesha o Yanesha' (de la familia Arawak), Cha'palaachi y Guambiano (de la familia Barbacoa), Huarpe y Mapudungun (pueden verse los inventarios fonológicos, por ejemplo, en el libro <EM>The languages of the Andes</EM> de W. Adelaar y P. Muysken). En Proto-Quechua la lateral palatal es una consonante frecuente, mientras que -por el contrario- la no palatal es de aparición de aparición muy rara. En Mochica parece que existieron dos laterales palatales distintas, una sonora y otra sorda.</DIV>

<DIV>Esto está en agudo contraste con lo que ocurre en la región amazónica, donde la lateral palatal parece virtualmente ausente.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Entre las lenguas de la región chaqueña, existen laterales palatales a nivel fonológico en las siguientes lenguas Guaicurúes medidionales: Toba (actual), Mocoví, Pilagá y Ñachilamole'k (pero no -según la interpretación de Elena Najlis- en Abipón, y aparentemente tampocó en el Toba antiguo registrado por Barcena hacia 1595). En estas lenguas se trata de un fonema que surgió (paralelamente a otras palatalizaciones de consonantes dentales) del contacto de una lateral dental con <STRONG><EM>*i </EM></STRONG>o con <STRONG><EM>*y</EM></STRONG>, lo que es a veces transparente hasta en la morfofonémica actual,</DIV>

<DIV>En la familia linguística Alakaluf hay una correspondencia entre Kawésqar <STRONG><EM>y</EM></STRONG> : Alakaluf Central <STRONG><EM>l </EM></STRONG> : Alakaluf del Sur <STRONG><EM>l </EM></STRONG>para la cual se puede reconstruir una lateral palatal (o palatalizada) en Proto-Alakaluf, que se habría vocalizado en Kawésqar.</DIV>

Se entendi bem, a líquida palatal é mesmo extremamente rara nas terras baixas. Eu não me lembro, de memória, de nenhuma língua Macro-Jê que a tenha, mas certamente outros colegas na lista terão acesso a informações mais seguras (o Lev também é assinante da lista).<BR><BR>Mas, claro, a líquida palatal é um fonema geralmente raro nas línguas do mundo. Mesmo nas línguas românicas, é uma inovação, e tende a ser instável não apenas em português. A "explicação" que se dá, de que a vocalização se deve a influência indígena, me lembra o caso do <r> caipira, também geralmente atribuído a influência indígena, mesmo que não haja evidências para tanto (Brian Head tem
