<p>É com grande pesar que comunicamos o falecimento do último falante da língua Apiaká, o Sr. Pedrinho Kamassuri. Ele faleceu no domingo 10 de abril de 2011 no hospital da cidade de Juara (MT). "Seu Pedrinho" não resistiu à pneumonia nem à tuberculose que o enfraqueciam há anos. <br>
<br>
Por causa das fortes chuvas e enchentes no norte do Mato Grosso, a estrada de acesso à comunidade Apiaká está em péssimas condições, dificultando o socorro e o deslocamento das pessoas da aldeia que queriam estar com o Sr. Pedrinho. Seu último desejo era o de ter reencontrado sua irmã da Aldeia Mayrowi, o que não foi possível.<br>

A comunidade Apiaká da Aldeia Mayrob tem passado por dificuldades de toda ordem: no mês passado, perderam o único barco e motor de popa na Cachoeira dos Apiaká, devido a uma inesperada tromba d'água. Os cinco que estavam no barco ficaram feridos, mas sobreviveram ao possível afogamento.<br>
<br>
Apesar de tudo, aumenta o desejo dos Apiaká de realizar a expedição em busca dos Apiaká "fugidos". Eles acreditam que há um pequeno grupo de índios Apiaká não contatados, perambulando pelo Pará. Os Mebêngokrê de Colider falam de um pequeno grupo identificado como "saqueadores desconhecidos". Segundo denúncias e comentários, eles seriam parecidos com os Kayabi, falando uma língua muito próxima. Para os Apiaká mais velhos, são parentes Apiaká que fugiram para não se tornarem "funcionários" do extrativismo da borracha, como aconteceu com a grande maioria deles.<br>
