<DIV>O fenômeno de pluralidade verbal espresso por meio de foirmas supletivas encontra-se nas outras línguas da Amazônia (por exemplo, em Jarawara, e Karo, e várias outras). Tenho impressão que o contraste entre as formas do plural e do singular são obrigatórias com os verbos de movemnto e de posição na maioria das línguas onde existe esse fenômeno.</DIV>

<DIV>O Bob Dixon vai tratar disso no terceiro volume do livro dele, 'Basic linguistic theory' (Oxford UP, 2012). Estou colocando como arquivo um artigo nosso que acabou de ser publicado numa coletânia, Language at large (pp. 152-4, 'Non-ergative associations between S and O') (O conteúdo do livro vem num arquivo a parte). <P>Prezados,<BR><BR>Parece-me que uma característica comum nas línguas das terras baixas<BR>da América do Sul é a falta de obrigatoriedade da expressão de<BR>(concordância de) número com verbos. O Karajá é geralmente assim,<BR>exceto no caso de verbos de movimento ('ir/vir', 'correr', etc.) e de<BR>alguns verbos de (mudança de) posição. Neste caso, a concordância<BR>parece ser obrigatória, e se expressa através de dois mecanismos:<BR><BR>-- formas supletivas (singular vs. plural)<BR>-- a existência de um mecanismo flexional restrito a tais verbos<BR><BR>Outras línguas Macro-Jê apresentam uma situação semelhante (o Xavánte,<BR>por exemplo, também tem formas supletivas para indicar número). Uma<BR>curiosidade que tenho é se tal contraste entre obrigatoriedade (com<BR>verbos de movimento e posição) e opcionalidade (com os demais verbos) é<BR>algo comum nas línguas do mundo ou algo mais restrito (tanto<BR>geográfica, quanto
