For those of you attending the Linguistic Society of America annual
meeting next month in Chicago, we would like to call your attention to two
events planned in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Committee on the
Status of Women in Linguistics (COSWL).

An organized session entitled 'Women in Linguistics: Celebrating 25 Years
of COSWL' will be held on Thursday, January 6, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. It
will feature presentations of current research by noted scholars Penelope
Eckert (Stanford University), Janet Fodor (City University of New York),
Jean Berko Gleason (Boston University), and Ilse Lehiste (Ohio State
University).

An anniversary gala will be held after the talks, from 9:30-10:30 p.m.
The cost is $10.00 for those who are employed, and $5.00 for those who are
students, retired, or unemployed. This fee includes a celebratory drink
and dessert. We encourage everyone to sign up for the party by sending
payment to the LSA before December 30, using the annual meeting
preregistration form found in the October LSA bulletin and at the LSA
website (http://www.lsadc.org/web2/oct99bull/octbullfr.htm). However, it
will also be possible to sign up for the party at the conference
registration desk.

Also, please note that the COSWL business meeting will take place during
the LSA conference on Saturday morning, January 8, from 8:00-9:00 a.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend.

For more details about any of these events, please refer to the COSWL
website, at: http://ling.wisc.edu/~macaulay/coswl.00LSA.html.
