we are pleased to announce

GENDER - FROM COSTS TO BENEFITS
6th Symposium on Gender Research
Christian-Albrecht University at Kiel, Germany
15-17 November 2002

The conference, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education
and Research, focuses on the economic aspects of gendering with the aim
of discussing the costs and benefits of the gender category. Of interest
are questions like the  following: How much does it cost when women earn
just as much as men? How useful is the gender-specific distribution of
tasks? How expensive is it not to make use of the leadership potential
of women?

Presentation of a video-recorded interview with Prof. Dr. Gary S. Becker
(University of Chicago, USA, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economy 1992)

PARALLEL SESSIONS
We intend to have special sessions on the following topics:
* Gender and the labour market (e.g. wages, access, qualifications,
work-life-balance, ...)
* Gender in the globalised economy (e.g. money and resources, female
entrepreneurs in developing countries, ...)
* Gender and leadership (e.g. the glass ceiling-phenomenon, gendering in
organisations, ...)
* Social costs of gender (e.g. health, security, violence, ...)

CALL FOR PAPERS
We invite scientists as well as students from all disciplines and
nations to participate with a contribution to one of the parallel
sessions. Abstracts for a presentation (30 minutes including 10 minutes
discussion) should be submitted in English (preferably) or in German and
should not exceed one page. They can also be sent in electronic form (as
rtf file or e-mail).

PUBLICATION
A selection of the contributions will be published in the publication
series of the ZiF.

CONFERENCE FEE
Registration until 1 October 2002 - Euro 50,00 /  registration after 1
October 2002 - Euro 60,00
(Registration is free for students and for unemployed participants.)
