Just a brief reply to this -- this is a very valid question. Unfortunately
it is one that remains entirely uninvestigated as far as I know in any
particular research project. In the months to come, I'll be undertaking a
detailed literature search focussing on environmental factors in bilingual
development and hopefully I'll find some partial answers to this question.
