Hello, I wonder if anybody ou there might
be able to direct me to papers that address
the issue of the uniqueness of human phonology?
I'd like to see some papers that propose that
various specific aspects of the phonological
system are innate and unique to humans. Is there
anything of this sort for, say, syllabic templates?
rule governed behaviors like assimilation, cluster
reduction, metathesis?? I'd be quite obliged
if you could point out relevant references.
Thanks,
Dianne Patterson
P.S.
Even a paper that just more generally claimed a
unique status for phonology (uniquely human) would
be valuable. I appreciate it.
