Brian --- Thanks for the message.  I just want to point out that I was by
no means referring to ALL neural network models --- far from it, as I am
a great fan of realistic NN models.  I specifically singled out just the
1987 Rumelhart and McClelland model for my remarks, since it is so
unrealistic and is the one that has nevertheless received that mystifying
amount of favorable attention from neurologically inclined people like Kandel.
Another serious attempt to be neurologically realistic in model construction
is Burnod (1990), "An Adaptive Neural Network: The Cerebral Cortex".
