Dear Michael,

Could you announce the 2001 Linguistic Institute at your Conference. the
Institute will be sponsored by the Linguistic Society of America,
Australia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the Academia Sinica of Taiwan. The
theme is:  The Diversity of Language: How and Why languages differ.  The
sub-theme is The Pacific Rim languages and linguistics. There will be more
than 75 professors coming from 54 institutions in 21 countries. In
addition, Santa Barbara is a beautiful beach resort with balmy weather and
a great variety of gourmet restaurants and natural environment. The website

Please let the students in South Africa know that there will be a large
number of fellowships to be awarded by a committee at the Linguistic
Society of America. Competition is open to everyone across the world. Write
to LSA for information.
