phonological information of a structure in a given language..is it better to be represented as a tree-structure format or not?

Dear All,

Is there some studies arguing against the idea of representing phonological information in general (and prosodic information in particular) in tree-structure format as we have been doing with syntactic structure, for example?

Any help appreciated...

Thank you in advance
