This acronym thing is fun.  Some more suggesions:

How about GALAS (Gender And Language ASsociation)?  (I already suggested
     this one...)
Or, to get the International in there, IGLA (International Gender and
     Language Association)?  ([i'gla] means 'needle' in Russian; is that
     negative?)

BUT, maybe it would be better to pick the NAME first and the acronym
second.  There are several organizations with 'clever' acronyms that do
not give off the professional sound I think we all want (and need).  In
that case, I wonder if I could maybe suggest that we possibly redirect
this discussion to the organization's name?  There are so many letters in
each of the words involved that I think we could easily make a good
acronym later.  Since many of those writing in on this seem to want the
word 'international' in the name, GALA might not be the best point of
departure anyway.

For starters, I suggest the NAME be something along the lines of:

International Association for the Study of Gender and Language.
