Welcome again to GALA-L, which officially kicks off today. By now you have
read the welcome message, which explains the organization of this list and
what we hope to accomplish. In brief, the goal of this list is to establish
a mandate for a gender and language association through a democratic
process. In order to meet the goal in a timely fashion, we believe that is
important to propose an agenda for the discussion. In order to facilitate
participation from everyone who is interested, we are soliciting items for
the agenda from the list as a whole. Our only goal at this point is to
gather agenda items and organize them in an accessible form. The role of the
facilitators in all of this is to keep the agenda moving, not to determine
it. However, to get the ball rolling, here are a few general topics that
might be considered:

*Topics pertaining to GALA, the organization*:
Structure of GALA (the organization)
Philosophy of GALA
Nature of GALA (i.e., international, conferences, etc.)

*Ideas on how to proceed*:
-Timeline for Creating the Association
-Agenda items for each general topic of discussion
-Schedule for discussion/which topics first.

Please propose additional "general topics" or propose items you think that
it is necessary to discuss as a subset of each general topic. What should be
discussed first in your opinion? There is no need to second any proposals
because all items that are proposed will be included. We would like to spend
a week on the task of brainstorming and generating the agenda. The
facilitators will provide a synthesis next week and then propose a full,
six-month agenda and timeline for further discussion, amendment and a vote.
(Of course, this agenda may need to change somewhat as we go down the road.)
We ask that members of the list not get into discussing specific items
proposed for the agenda until you all have a chance to brainstorm for agenda
items and vote for their inclusion. With over 100 subscribers, we're hoping
that this approach will encourage active participation without us all being
too overwhelmed with messages.

This will be fun,
Mary, Megan, Monica, Kira, Sara
