national or international?

I think people on the list may be confusing two issues.  One is whether
the *list* is open to an international membership.  (Obviously it is,
since y'all are on it.)  The second is whether the *organization* to be
founded will be national (USA), or North American, or more international
than that.  (Also, perhaps we need to discuss the issue of what defining a
*national* USA organization has meant to the organizers.  I suspect that
this is linked in part to how much additional work the organizers feel
they can take on.)  Perhaps all of these could be on the agenda for
discussion; but since the national-international issue is already firmly
on the agenda, perhaps we could move on to identifying other important
issues for discussion?
