Some organizational action!

The IGALA Executive Committee and the Advisory Board have completed
proposed bylaws for our organization. They are attached to this message.
They will also be discussed at the business meeting at IGALA2 this
weekend.

The membership of IGALA will vote electronically on these bylaws beginning
on April 29. The membership will consist of those who have paid dues to
IGALA.

We have set the dues at a very modest yearly level - $15 US for those who
are fully employed; and $10 for students, those who are not fully
employed, and those from countries with severely restricted currencies. A
downloadable membership form can be found on the IGALA website at:

http://www.stanford.edu/group/igala/contact.html

Those who are attending IGALA2 this weekend will be able to join there.

In addition, on April 29, we will begin taking nominations for the next
set of officers. The nomination period will last for four weeks (as
specified in the bylaws). Only members can nominate or serve as officers.

Why should you join? First of all, it will permit you to participate in
organizational matters, and to present papers at future IGALA conferences.
But in addition, the dues will be used to promote language and gender
research and teaching.

SO PLEASE JOIN!

I hope to see many of you in Lancaster this weekend -

Penny
