PRACTICES OF IDENTITY IN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC PLACES: POLITICAL FIGURES

A masculine political figure running for the presidency of his country when asked about the influence of his wife (a famous, pretty actress known for her work in the television and movie business) in the election process, replies that she is just the woman he goes to bed with. The question is how to interpret what was said by the masculine figure, how to organize the publicized ideological values and how the private component explosion of sexual love coexists with the social value attributions of the masculine and feminine components reflected in the public sphere. In private, the category emotion is triggered, since both men and women are announcing the presence of amorous pulsation; at that moment, a pragmaticist action is taking place: amorous sharing is desirable. In public, the social roles (the traditional ideological status quo) represent the masculine and feminine figures: men head the couple and women are their mates, the objects of desire. The private sphere, for its solidarity with the pathos pulsation, enables us to catch a glimpse of the nature of metaphorical language; the collective sphere, while hiding the private component by/in the crystallization of sociocultural values, tends to stabilize language literality. By means of an analytical relational route between the private and public offered in/by metaphorical and literal languages, a polysemous search of the masculine and feminine identities is established.
