Hello, Stella. On gender as a grammatical category, try Greville Corbett
(1991) Gender, Cambridge University Press. Also the more recent Gender
across Languages (3 vols) edited by Marlis Hellinger and Hadumod Bussmann:
John Benjamins. First two vols are 2001 and 2002. Not sure the third is
out yet.
Best wishes,
Joan Swann

Subject: grammatical gender: request for information

Dear all,
Can anybody recommend a text (book, article, etc) on gender
as a grammatical category? I am interested in Classical Greek,
in particular, but would also like to read something general
on the history/development of the idea of gender as a grammatical
category. All suggestions gratefully received,
Yours,
Stella
