Neoliberalism is simultaneously an economic tenet and an ethos used as a
guide for governing citizens and reasoning, it redefines ideas of the
sovereignty of selves as well as nations. It is said to impact all manner of
social institutions and practices. This presentation seeks to show where
neoliberalism impacts people's lives by analyzing its dramatic impact on
notions of sex, sexuality, gender, "family," the body, marriage and/or
reproduction.

To ground such an inquiry, presentations are sought that focus the specific
histories of neoliberal impact on sexualities with attention to the
overlapping impacts of neoliberalism on race, gender, and environmental
concerns.

This panel is also interested in characterizing a particular neoliberal
style and rhetoric in regards to linguistic characteristics. Is there a
particular syntax, register, voice, grammar, genre, etc. used that would
queue one towards understanding that a neoliberal logic underlies certain
events and/or larger political/policy maneuvers?

I seek presentations that broadly examine these impacts in the realms of
sex, queerness, bodily surveillance, sexuality, gender, "family," marriage
or reproduction.

Please email Michelle at marzullo at american.edu with a presentation title and
250-word abstract if you are interested in participating on this panel.

Deadline: January 30, 2008.
