The Department seeks to appoint a Professor of Applied Linguistics (the UK equivalent to a Full Professor). 

You will have a PhD or equivalent and a well-established international research track-record in Applied Linguistics generally and in the area of second/foreign language teaching and learning in particular. You will join internationally known researchers and teachers in such related fields as Language Testing, Literacy Research, Second Language Acquisition, Language Teaching and Learning, Cognitive Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, English Language study, Sociolinguistics, Phonology, and Discourse Studies.

You will pursue a high-profile research agenda and produce publications at a level appropriate for a very strong submission to the Research Excellence Framework in 2013. You will supervise MA and PhD students.  You will teach on postgraduate modules in Applied Linguistics, and particularly in the area of second/foreign language teaching and learning. You will need to travel occasionally for delivery of short distance courses.

You will have a PhD and a strong research track-record in First Language Acquisition, and general knowledge/expertise in Psycholinguistics, preferably from a usage-based perspective. You will join internationally known researchers and teachers in such related fields as Cognitive Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, English Language study, Sociolinguistics, Phonology, Discourse Studies, Language Testing, Literacy Research, Second Language Acquisition, and Language Teaching and Learning.
